Simplifi vs Monarch at a glance.
Simplifi and Monarch both connect accounts, organize transactions, track investments and net worth, and calculate what remains after planned costs. Their strongest differences are price, household depth, budget presentation, and long-range planning.
| Decision | Quicken Simplifi | Monarch Money |
|---|---|---|
| Core job | Automatic monthly Spending Plan and personal finance tracking | Full household finance, budgeting, and planning dashboard |
| Budget style | Income minus bills, subscriptions, planned spending, and savings goals | Category Budgeting or a monthly Flex Budget |
| Detailed controls | Watchlists, transaction rules, reports, cash-flow forecasts | Categories, rules, reports, goals, rollovers, and planning |
| Sharing | Add one other person through Spaces and Sharing | Separate access for members of a shared household |
| Investments and net worth | Included | Included; Plus adds deeper portfolio analysis |
| Price | Current first-year offer is $3.99 a month billed annually; regular price is $6.99 a month billed annually | Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year; Plus is $199.99 a year |
| Platforms | Web and mobile | Web, iOS, and Android |
| Best fit | You want a cheaper spending plan with deep personal reports | You want a household system and broader planning |
The same $75 dinner in both apps.
Assume accounts, bills, and goals are current. It is Thursday, and you are deciding whether a $75 dinner fits.
| Step | Simplifi | Monarch Money |
|---|---|---|
| Where you look | Available spending in the monthly Spending Plan or a dining Watchlist | The dining category or remaining Flex amount |
| What is already counted | Income, bills, subscriptions, planned spending, and savings goals configured in the plan | Fixed, flexible, and non-monthly spending configured in the budget |
| What the answer means | The dinner fits the month's available spending | The dinner fits the month's category or flexible pool |
| What you still interpret | Whether the remaining daily amount works for the rest of the month | How much flexible room you want to use now |
Both apps expose the tradeoff. Simplifi emphasizes available spending and monitoring. Monarch places the decision inside a broader household view.
Choose Simplifi for value and the Spending Plan.
Simplifi's product page says its Spending Plan starts with monthly income, subtracts bills and subscriptions, and accounts for savings goals and planned spending. It can show how much remains per day for the rest of the month.
The same product includes transaction rules, reports, watchlists, cash-flow forecasting, investments, net worth, bill tracking, retirement planning, and sharing with one other person. That is a large feature set at the current promotional price of $3.99 a month billed annually. The official page lists the regular price as $6.99 a month billed annually and says direct offers apply to the first year.
Simplifi is a strong choice when one or two people want a detailed personal finance view and do not need Monarch's deeper household organization or Plus planning tools.
Choose Monarch for household depth and planning.
Monarch's couples product is designed around multiple people reviewing one household. Its budgeting page gives users a choice between detailed categories and a simpler Flex Budget for fixed, flexible, and non-monthly spending.
Core also includes accounts, goals, reports, investments, net worth, and bill tracking. Plus adds retirement and life-event forecasting, deeper portfolio tools, and support for multiple income streams such as a small business or rental.
Monarch costs more. The additional spend makes sense when shared workflows and planning tools are the reason for subscribing. It is harder to justify when one person mainly wants to know what remains after bills and goals.
Price is Simplifi's clearest advantage.
At the current first-year offer, Simplifi costs about $47.88 for twelve months before tax. Its listed regular rate works out to about $83.88 a year when billed annually. Monarch Core costs $99.99 a year.
Promotional prices expire and renewal prices change, so check the live checkout before buying. The right comparison is the renewal price against the features you still use after the first year, not the discount shown during setup.
Switching between Simplifi and Monarch.
Keep the old app active while linking accounts in the new one. Recreate transaction rules, budgets, goals, recurring bills, watchlists, and shared access that still matter. Verify account balances and recent transactions before trusting any remaining-spend figure.
Run both through one full statement cycle. Connection quality, duplicate handling, category accuracy, and the time needed to keep the plan current will decide whether the move improved anything.
When neither app fits.
Simplifi and Monarch both provide rich monthly dashboards. Pace handles a smaller job for someone who stops opening those dashboards: show one safe-to-spend number for this week after bills and savings are counted.
Pace does not offer web or Android access, household sharing, investments, net worth, or deep reports. It is available to US iPhone users. Read Simplifi vs Pace and Monarch Money vs Pace before trading a full dashboard for the narrower answer.
How we checked this comparison.
Pace's team prepared this page. Product facts were checked on October 17, 2026 against Quicken Simplifi's first-party product, pricing, features, and sharing page, plus Monarch's first-party pricing, budgeting, and couples pages. We checked published documentation and did not retest every feature inside paid accounts.
